Understanding the concepts behind a piece is an important part of art for me. I create artwork with underlying themes and symbols incorporated into them. My previous body of works was focused on different subjects relating around the concepts of change and transformation, reminding people that nothing stays the same, and that the only constant is change. The context of my work is living in suburban Chicago, seeing the ever changing beauty of nature. In my work, I draw subjects from nature; I’m interested in very detailed and realisticwork. I have analyzed many different artist, but one artist who has been most influential to my work is Tasha Lewis. The content of her art is very similar to what I was thinking about when I first began working with the theme of ephemerality. Tasha Lewis created her art to transform and revive art in urban public spaces, she illustrates the changing of something normal into a beautiful work of art. She also took a 2-dimensional piece and made it 3-dimensional, which inspired me to do some of my more successful pieces of work. Recently my content has been changing and I have started to focus on the ideas and our perception of beauty, depicting how beauty affects women in particular and their self-image. This is a concept that has, for many years, had an influence on the lives of young women and girls all around the world.
